Nestled among Mennonite farmland in Maxatawny, just outside Kutztown, the shared family land into a homestead that serves our family, one another, and The One who is the source of all provision.
2025 was the first year I committed to using a raised bed built by my in-laws and I filled it with tomatoes, peppers, peas, and green beans! The tomatoes and peppers especially kept me busy and led to the start of my canning journey that September!
------------------------------
Winter of 2025, I visited a dear friend, who I've known as a truly Faithful gardener for ages, who has since dedicated time to becoming a joyful herbalist. I departed with an overflowing heart, many seeds, knowledge, and drive to expand further with an intentional garden this coming year that would lend itself to be more sustaining for meals as well as medicinal.
------------------------------
Going into Spring of 2026, I tried my hand at strawberry jam (first jam!) to replace store bought for my son. As spring peaked around the corner, I began to not just grow my plant ID skills hands-on, but also forage from our yard so many wonderful plants! Dandelion jelly and wild violet syrup have been some highlights of this season of learning, along with a second hand dehydrator to help capture some spring harvest for future use!
------------------------------
Right now we have a speckling of skills and interests that we only foresee growing! Fruits and veggies this year (including 10 blueberry bushes my FIL just acquired already flowering!), herbs (some established and others to be grown this year), processed canned goods, sourdough baking, tea blends, tinctures, salves, and some more on the foreseeable horizon!
------------------------------
We are so thankful for what we have in front of us, and continue to pray for a bountiful harvest and look forward to seeing the path ahead of us, our family, and what we do to grow our little corner of the world!
