I had an odd heart nudge over the last week or so. As I have been making the wild violet and dandelion jellies, I made wild violet syrup.. and it has been SO delicious added into sun-brewed black tea and lemonade. And the heart nudge I got recalled someone I knew in high school who has since opened his own cheesecake business and is killing it. We always all told him he should go into the baking business, and I've been rooting for him since he made his socials official. Anyway, this nudge happened not once, but several times over the week. I kept brushing off the idea of pitching the spring florals as potential flavors...Until he then posted on his stories asking for Spring Seasonal suggestions!
What was precursed with a "hear me out...." resulted in meeting today after adventuring to Space Farms with my son! (He still lives local to where we grew up, about an hour and 45 minutes from me.) We spent a while chatting and catching up, and then got to some tasting. He had me (and my son) try 4 different flavors - and every single one was incredible. The honey lavender was to DIE for!
I had packed my cooler with lemon water and the syrup to mix there and shared some for his tasting. We talked some about what I have going on now, and a bunch about floral flavors and foraging. I ended up leaving him with a full quart of wild violet syrup, 2 small jars of dehydrated violets, and 1x 4oz jar each of the dandelion and wild violet syrup.
I have no clue if it's going to go anywhere homestead/business wise. But it was SO wonderful to catch up and exchange some tastes and some goods. I was definitely a little nervous as it was putting myself out there for the first time with anything related to the homestead/homegoods venture. And who knows, maybe it'll lead to a collaboration down the line as we root for one another!
