Saturday was a first for Red Letter Homestead! Sprout 4 Kids, a local mom who started a consignment offering for kids items hosted the first ever Mom Mart! I signed up as a vendor and was so excited to bring some of the goodness we have to the community and start getting our name out there.
Over the weeks leading up, I was gone 6 days for band camp total, but still managed to stay on track to bring a couple herbs, dandelion jelly & salve, stickers, some fresh veggies, seeds, and Paint & Plant kits in addition to 2 homemade lemonade flavors prepped and bottled within 24 hours of the Mart! A good variety that represented what a spread of goodies we are afforded from leaning into working the property and putting our hands to the work they were intended for! My husband definitely helped get a few of the details ready on time too!
Set Up
Set up was a breeze (although I could have planned ahead for a cart to roll in - no biggie!). Kelly, from Sprout, had done all of the table set ups the night before (thank you!) so I just had to find my table and start setting up! I loved having our logo sign bold and beautiful made by another local Lehigh Valley family, and in a stand lovingly made by my husband just for the table. What I had brought felt like a good fill of the table. Not too busy, but plenty of options to catch the eye! Bonus - I was placed right next to my friend's table!
The Mart!
This was the fun part! How much did I make? I made costs back plus some, so for a first vending event (for me), and a first ever event in the community - I am happy! There were families and individuals pretty consistently passing through taking time to pause and chat. I learned about so many other home gardens and their favorite plants and even connected with a handful of other crunchy people too who appreciated that I was in the mix of vendor tables to stop at. In all, there were ~45 vendors and kids programming up in the loft with yoga, storytime, and music therapy sessions (by Music for Every Body LLC - someone I used to teach with!). It was so heartwarming to see all ages finding the sparkles and enjoying the event. My in-laws even stopped by with my son & nephew and had found a few things even before reaching me.
Clean Up & Community
The community was the highlight - from set up to tear down. Everyone was just supporting of one another. So many smiling faces all ready to greet both the potential customers and crowd passing through AND fellow vendors around the entire space. Not only that, but there was some joy in bartering with other vendors. Shout out to Delightfully Sourdough, Mama Sugar Cookies, and Morning Star Creati for entertaining some barters and I hope you enjoyed the juices and jellies!! And a surprise gift exchange from Little L.E.G.S. as we chatted during clean up!
Overall!
I would 100% do another event like this! I had some personal situations going on that taxed my energy and ability to be as exploring as I would have been otherwise and limited what I had to offer versus what I planned. But for a first event for Red Letter Homestead - definitely satisfied and encouraged to keep going at similar events when I'm back to fighting form! Thankful for Kelly's efforts to organize and set up the event and for all of the small touches welcoming vendors into the space.
With a Joyful Heart,
